Agnee (The flame of revenge ) Movie review

Rating: 3.5/5 Stars (Three and half stars)

Star cast: Mahiya Mahi, Arefin Shuvo, Aliraz, Misha Shoudagor, Kabila, Don, Shiba Sanu, Dani Sidak, Iftakar Chowdhury

Director: Iftakar Chowdhury

Editing: Tawhid Hossain Chowdhury

Written by: A J Babu

Producer: Jaaz Multimedia

Pluses: Technical works, Action, Mahi, Location, Screenplay and altogether a noble intention to take bangle movie next level.

Minuses: Dialogue, Cinematography, Background Score, Loop fall of Dubbing

Recommendation: A must watch for a lot of reasons, especially to experience with the break through of bangle cinema. Dehorokkhi, which was the biggest hit of the year at that time, was the last directorial venture from Iftakar Chowdhury. Mahi took training from action director Jaika from Thailand for 6 months to be fit for this character.  About 90% action shooting took place in Bangkok, Thailand. Angee is miles away from being a bad film. The passion of the film was too superficial to engage the audiences in a vehement narrative. In the end, undoubtedly Agnee is a must watch for being a worth show that deserves to be watched.

Story/Plot of Agnee:

Agnee is a contemporary story of conflict between good and evil, taking revenge by positive lead over negative (as per film making format) at the end. The story progress with the mission of a girl who lost her parents in early age. Her parents were murdered by a smuggling gang and she was the eye-witness of that incident. It engages the audience and stay connected them with the screen by telling story using flashbacks time to time. At the end it ends with victory of good over bad and taking revenge for unjust happening with the lead character.

The film starts with Tanisha (Mahiya Mahi) killing Kamal (Iftakar Chowdhury), one of five murderers to Take Revenge for Her Parent’s death. The gang is lead by Gulzar (Aliraz) and other members are DB Officer Haider (Misha Soadagor), Don and Shiba Sanu. After killing Kamal, Tanisha flies to Thailand, where others who were involved in Tanisha’s Parents murder are currently living. Dragon (Arefin Shuvo) is works for the security of Gulzar and others. Dragon asks everyone to stay his safe home for their security. But the underworld gang refuses to take them in the safe house. Mean while, Mahi killed another member of the gang in his own message center and attached Don, but he survive because of Dragon’s presence in the boat. After that Tanisha start living in Dragon’s uncle’s house. Eventually Dragon fall in love with Tanisha and she take the advantage to know the address of Dragon’s safe house. After few days, Tanisha finds Dragon’s safe house and kills Don. After killing Don, Tanisha plans to kill Shiba Sanu and find him in road way with his car. Meanwhile Haider flies to Dhaka to find out the details of Tanisha and discover the history of their past evils works. With the help of Haider, Gulzar also finds out about Tanisha’s Real Identity and that Dragon is in Love with Her. Haider gets angry and Sends his gang to kill Dragon but they fails to kills Dragon. In this attack they kill Dragon’s Uncle and Aunty. Finally Tanisha and Dragon finish the gang by killing Gulzar and Haider.

Direction, Editing and Screenplay of Agnee:

Iftakar Chowdhury does a masterstroke with this film. And Iftakar’s execution is what makes the fast depleting story hold its ground. The trajectories he builds are shaky but his screenplay is engrossing enough to not let you slip even in the slack moments. The overall scripting of the film was quite impressive considering the predictable story line. The introduction of Tanisha/Agnee deserves to be appreciated. The film’s story comes without excessive baggage of intelligence and is kept simplistic in its vein. Scripting of Agnee shows a better side of the film. It helps to hold audience interest in the screen and overcome the loop break of the story itself.

Considering the strength of our film industry, the visualization of the story and other side of the film is good to excellent. Certainly, there few scene where cinematography could be better without any major effort, e.g. introduction of Dragon, where Gulzar describe about him. Few snap-shots could improve the scene that matches with the description. The concepts of never wasting yourself saying thank yours rather help three other people, is both unreal and wishful. But at least the film attempts to infuse some potent messages amidst the thrashing and action.

Star Performances of Agnee:

Mahi steal the show, I must say. She is effortlessly terrific as Agnee. The actor’s impulsive vein comes handy in this role especially because she is so glamorous with such ease, that it will be hard to take your eyes off her. She portray a role that needs both emotional and hard side of a lady and she did well.

Arefin Suvo’s relative inexperience and lack of heroism character however plays him down a little when pitted opposite Mahi. He is intense, brimming with emotions but the rendering is not done to rightly tinted perfection.

Ali Raz is nuanced as the evil and delivers the character with huge positive notes as an actor. Kabila also deserve to be noticed for his charming subtlety is hands down.

In short on Agnee:

Agnee was spectacular and majestic. Keeping a strong hold on the emotional prowess of its plot, the film sews in the slick action so awe strikingly. It gets right everything that is a must for commercial films, especially its ability to grasp on to the interest of audiences. One bang up job! In single sentence it is break through for Bangla Film Industry. Wait, wait….. it will turn out to be a break through for us if we could find the weakness of the film with the intention to improve. Agnee could be a start to our journey to next level, it is not next level itself. The commercial success of Agnee shows that good film will work, that’s it. I am going for 3.5 stars for Agnee.
